Bowling Tips

  1. If you hit straight, the chance of a strike are less.I’m left handed, so should hit the 1 from the left side ie in the 1-2 pocket. So aim for the ball to go between the 2nd and 3rd arrow and not the center one.
  2. Aim for the Arrows.Don’t look at the pins
  3. Follow the 4 step approach: start, push, swing and roll. SEE: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q921f42q7eE
    1. use the 5 ft. marker to start from. for lefties, the right foot should be on center at starting. This way the shoulder automatically is positioned between 2nd and 3rd pin. When starting, the foot and arm (originally parallel to ground) start together. lEFT FOOT AND ARM SHOULD MOVE OUT TOGETHER
    2. Use gravity to push back consistently every time
    3. Keep the palm parallel to ground at all times and under the ball.
    4. when rolling don’t keep the ball in flight for long. release ball at ankle leveL. THE WRIST SHOULD NOT BEND BACK AT ANY TIME, NOT EVEN AT THE MOMENT OF RELEASE OF BALL. IT SHOULD BE BENT FORWARD SLIGHTLY.
    5. BOTTOMLINE FOR 4 STEP APPROACH IS TO START FROM 4.5 STEPS BACK AND THEN, FOR LEFTY, FIRST PUT LEFT FOOT FORWARD AND WITH THAT BRING THE BALL FORWARD. THEN IN 2ND AND 3RD STEP GET THE BALL BACK AND THEN IN 4TH STEP (IE RIGHT FOOT) SLIP HALF FOOT FORWARD AND BEND TO TAKE THE SHOT WHILE BENDING THE LEFT FOOT BEHIND THE RIGHT ONE
  4. Bowling with a swerve is called a hook. IT ADDS ROLL TO THE BALL AND NOT SPIN. HOOK HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH SPINNING THE BALL. THIS IS DONE JUST USING THE FINGERS IN THE BALL AND NOT THE WRIST OR ELBOW AT ALL. BEFORE RELEASING, THE WRIST SHOULD BE PARALLEL TO THIGH AND NOT FACING THE PINS. SEE https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OuihH5CpaSY
  5. use the arrows as markers
  6. THE SECRET IS TO HIT THE CENTER PIN AT ANGLE OF 3-6 DEGREE. THIS IS A GURANTEED STRIKE. BUT WITHOUT A HOOK THIS IS IMPOSSIBLE. SEE THIS.
  7. HOLD THE BALL ONLY WITH FINGERS DEEP TO FIRST KNUCKLE. NEVER GO DEEPER THAN THAT. STICK THE THUMB AS FAR AS IT CAN GO IN.
  8. THE WAY TO HIT HOOK/SWERVE IS TO HAVE THE THUMB COME OUT FIRST AND KNUCKLES LATER, AS YOU’RE ROTATING THE WRIST CLOCKWISE. SEE THIS AT 2.30. NOTE THAT THE WRIST ROTATES HALF CIRCLE AT ANKLE LEVEL
  9. SPARE SHOOTING
    1. use the 3-6-9 system. using this system u always aim for spin ball between the 2nd and 3rd arrow (same as when u hit strike) but instead of starting approach at center point u do this:
      1. PINS ON OTHER SIDE
        1. so to pick up the 3 pin, move 3 boards  (ply boards) to the left (for lefties)
        2. and for 6 pin, move 6 boards from strike position
        3. and for 10 pin, move 9 boards from strike position
      2. PINS ON SAME SIDE
        1. For 7 pin , move 2 boards out from last point and aim for between center (1st) and the arrow to left of it.
        2. for 4 pin, move 3 boards IN from a’s postion above. aim for same arrows
          1. for 4 pin, move 3 boards IN from b’s postion above. aim for same arrows
    2. RULE OF THUMB: TO HIT PINS ON THE OTHER SIDE AS YOUR BOWLING HAND (i’m lefty, so that means the pins on the right side ie 3, 6 and 10) MOVE ON THE SAME SIDE (ie LEFT side). AND FOR THE PINS ON THE SAME SIDE, MOVE ON THE OTHER SIDE.
    3. basically u’re always hitting cross
    4. BEST: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pv2J3Vrrdqs
    5. MOST IMP: WHEN STARTING, THE FEET SHOULD POINT AT THE SPARE PIN, NOT STRAIGHT
  10. HITTING SPLITS
    1. AIM FOR THE SPARE THAT’S CLOSEST TO YOU..THAT’S ALL.

Who’s the biggest fan…I am

I often wonder, if, after the hundreds of shows and thousands of movies that i’ve watched over the years, can i call myself a fan, coz i don’t follow the actors, or even know the name of half of the leads. and that at times I don’t recall the storyline of the stuff that i watch..

But if you think about it in another way, I spend all my free time watching stuff, too busy experiencing every pixel, character and moment, too emotionally invested, to even bother to find out the name of the actors, let alone follow them and/or their life and stories..ehll, i don’t even care much for the name of the movie, as long as it’s rated 7+ in IMDB…

so yes, in a sense, i am a big fan of movies and shows, and to me, i am exactly how i want to be….

PS: I hate myself for wasting 10 min writing this, instead of watching the next episode of Suits…can’t wait

Choose video over text

I would always choose to follow a person’t youtube or any other video stream rather than his blog as it takes much more effort to create a 2 min video than to write a 200 word article…and so the writer person conveys more in a 32 min sketch/video than he would care to cover in a 2000 word article….

Also, remember, a picture is worth a thousands words and a movie is just 30-60 pictures/sec.

So a 2 min video is essentially 2*60*30 = 3600 pictures OR 3600*1000 = 3,600,000 words.

Ans if you read at avg speed ie 200 WPM, you would need to read 3.6 M /200 WPM  =  18000 Min OR 300 Hrs
